Epic Research Fundamentals - The Basics of Epic Research Workflows

Epic Research Fundamentals is designed to allow the study team member to understand the following topics:

1. How to navigate the Research Reporting Home Dashboard

2. Understanding the study's Research Administrative Record

3. Understanding the study participant record (LAR) and patient timeline in the record

4. Three primary methods of associating an encounter to the study timeline in Epic

5. Understanding how to find reports in Epic Reporting Workbench

6. Modifying and sharing an existing report for research purposes

7. The IRB compliant method of getting a customized research report for your study. These types of reports would be for data review or for research recruitment purposes

8. Understanding how the research billing teams perform a review of charges in Epic for proper billing

9. Research Monitor Access to Okta and releasing the patient list to the monitor

10. Ensuring that your research study is ready to be set to a completed status in Epic

11. Understanding how to access and use Research Notes in the patient's medical chart

At the end of the training modules is a scenario assessment module where you will have the opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of the primary workflows that you will use in Epic as a study coordinator. Completion of this scenario assessment is required for completion of the program.

Epic Research Fundamentals is broken down into individual sub-modules containing each topic. You can always revisit and reset a module that you have completed if you want to better understand the topic that was covered.

You do not need access to Epic in order to complete this training. All of these training modules can be completed in approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Epic Research Fundamentals is a required course for everyone that needs research access in Epic for their job role at UW, Fred Hutch, or the SCCA.
